My name is Marina Gregna and I am a freelance translator in the language pair English > Italian.
Born and raised in Northern Italy, I really thought that nothing could drag me away from the rustling chestnut trees of my hometown. Until one day I felt the same cosiness only a cup of hot chocolate sipped on your porch can give you. Except, I wasn't there! Suddenly, I found myself madly in love with that amazing place called Scotland and I am now proud to be able to call it my home. STUDIES & TRANSLATIONI have been studying English since I was in P2; foreign languages have always fascinated me in a way that only someone who has a spasmodic passion could understand.
I began translating some chapters of my favourite books, short extracts, and dealing with complicated poetry (miserably failing) when I was just a teenager. Although my teachers suggested that I pursue Classical Studies, I chose to enter a school specialised in foreign languages, a liceo linguistico. It is a 5-year Academic High School, and the programme covers the main subjects in the Humanities and, of course, foreign languages. In my case those were English, German, and French. But it wasn't until I got my maturity diploma and enrolled at The University of Bergamo that I discovered the fascinating world of Linguistics and Philology. I completed two out of the three years of my undergraduate degree in Foreign Languages and Literatures, Anthropological curriculum, English-Russian-French at Bergamo University, but my life then took a turn and I decided to move to Scotland, where I have been living since 2015. Here I completed my studies and I graduated with First-Class Honours in 2019. WHAT ABOUT TRANSLATION? In 2012 I began providing occasional translations for private clients on top of pro bono work I had been doing to start out in the profession. In 2014, as part of a Back Office CSO role, I managed oral and written interaction in English between my company and an international supplier agency that was developing a new software for internal use. After this experience, I kept providing translations of complaints and reports for one of our biggest clients on a daily basis. Although originally my background is in the Humanities, in the past few years I have been specialising in academic and medical translation. In 2016 I graduated cum laude from the Institute of Translators and Interpreters (SSIT) of Pescara, Italy, obtaining an Advanced Training Certificate in Medical Translation. More of what I can do for you among my services. LANGUAGE LESSONS
